| Mission: |
After large coastal areas in Sri Lanka were destroyed by the Tsunami in Dec. 2004, the Austrian Armed Forces sent a 77 head-strong Armed Forces Disaster Relief Unit (AFDRU) to the city of Galle, where the drinking water pipelines had been severely damaged. The mission was to build up water purification plants in order to provide the citizens with potable water.

Satellite communication via the SCOTTY Mobile and EMS Storm antenna and modem enabled a 64 kbps connection to headquarters in Austria.

With all communication infrastructure being devastated, the SCOTTY Mobile proved to provide a reliable and regular video connection to the headquarters for briefings, sending reports and pictures as well as receiving orders.
