SCOTTY and Italian Partner PMB Advanced Technologies Support Relief Efforts in Aftermath of Earthquake
SCOTTY equipment was integral in providing support to aid workers in the aftermath of the 5.8 on the Richter scale earthquake which shook central Italy.
Despite damaged infrastructure and rough terrain, SCOTTY equipment, along with Inmarsat satellite communication equipment was able to provide advanced video, audio, and data communication directly from the disaster site.
Immediately after the April 6 earthquake, whose epicenter was 10 kilometres from L'Aquila, civil protection teams from all over Italy responded to the disaster. The Civil Protection Agency of the Marche Region arrived at the site with a SCOTTY car satellite system and was the first team to send high-speed live video from the earthquake area. Connections were made to the coordinating headquarters of Marche Region Civil Protection, to the firefighters' headquarters, the National Civil Protection Department in Rome, and the Marche Region Emergency Room - see pictures.
The Civil Protection authorities also used the SCOTTY equipment to transmit live video of the disaster area to Rai TV ( Italian national TV) headquarters providing live updates and commentary.
SCOTTY Group and PMB Advanced Technologies are proud to have helped the italian population by supporting the civil protection agencies in reacting to this terrible event.
