PSTN Modem Compatibility Issues

To use eyesite for Windows products on your PC or Laptop, you will need a V.80 compatible modem that supports the V.80 extensions used in H.324.  Even though the manufacturer of the modem in your PC or Laptop may claim V.80 compatibility, there is a chance that it does not fully comply and may not work with the software viewers.  An indication you have a non-compliant modem is either the software will display an alert that the modem is not video ready or your system will reboot when initiating a call. Certain brands of “Soft-Modems” are especially suspect and not fully V.80 compliant.

eyesite for Windows V2 now has the ability to change modem settings more easily than in previous versions.  If you are experiencing problems with your modem functioning properly, please perform the following steps.

  1. Make sure you have the latest version of eyesite for Windows V2.
  2. Once you have installed the software, start eyesite for Windows V2, and click on the Options button on the main dialog.
  3. Make sure you have a selected modem in the "Analog Modem Group" by double-clicking on an available modem in the "Available V.80 modems" group.
  4. The "Selected Modem Profile" box contains a choice of settings for your modem to enable it to perform videoconferencing.
  5. Select "Default" first.
  6. Click the Ok button in the Options dialog, and make a test call using your modem.
  7. If you experience problems, open up the Options dialog again, and select "Profile2" from the Modem Profile box.
  8. Click the Ok button in the Options dialog, and make another test call.
  9. There are up to 7 different profiles to try, including "Custom" (special fixes may be included in software for your modem).
  10. If none of these profiles enable your modem to make video calls, you may have a modem that is not V.80 compatible (needed for video conferencing).

Additionally, to check if there are additional profiles available, you may perform the following steps:

  1. Make sure you have eyesite for Windows version 1.2 or later, eyesite for Windows Pro version 1.1 or later, or eyesite for Windows V2 to take advantage of the latest V.80 modem support.
  2. Check the modem compatibility list below to see if your modem is listed.  If your modem is included in the list and the "Available Fix" is to upgrade,  please download eyesite for Windows V2. Additionally, you may download the modem profile installer.
  3. Check the list below to see if your modem is listed below and whether it is known to be compatible with the software viewers:

How to verify your modem is compliant when you experience problems:
